Recent Government changes to VAT announced by the Treasury are an attempt to boost the economy by reducing prices and encouraging spending. Chancellor Alistair Darling’s pre-Budget report detailed a reduction in the rate of VAT from 17.5% to 15% starting on Monday for 13 months.

(McKinsey study)
Another report by Patrick Barwise, London Business School Professor fo Management & Marketing states that ‘the advantages of maintaining or increasing marketing effort are greater than the short-term benefits of reducing spend’.
